This scrapbook, the third of six in the Ellen Gordon Allen Collection, contains materials documenting the founding and early development of both Ikebana International and Ikebana International Chapter No. 1 Washington, D.C. – which Mrs. Allen established upon her return home.  It includes visits to Washington, D.C. by Houn Ohara, Headmaster of the Ohara School of Ikebana; Koshu Tsujii, Grand Master of the Saga School of Ikebana (1960); Crown Prince Akihito and Princess Michiko of Japan (1960); and Japanese Landscape Designer Dr. P. Takuna Tono (1961).  It also includes signed correspondence from Mamie Eisenhower, Patricia Nixon, Janet Dulles, and Marjorie Post.

The scrapbook materials are presented in two formats.  A PDF file in text and a picture gallery where each page or two pages were captured as .jpeg files.   .tiff files also exist and may be used for future projects where high-quality pictures are needed, but these are not added to this website.
